Donna is not doing well 10-21

Donna had a visit with the oncologist last Thursday. It looks like the oral Chemotherapy isn’t working. Her calcium level was high and she was given medication to bring that down. The doctor wanted to see how she would do without any medication this week, run the blood work this Wednesday, and see how she did and decide where to go from there.

Well, things have not been going so well. Donna spent the weekend not feeling well at all and running a high fever. She is sleeping a lot and not eating too well. She also seems to be having a really hard time with her balance too. She was getting very dehydrated and was sent to the ER Monday. In the ER they gave her fluids and ran tests and did a CTscan of her brain. They were looking to see if the cancer had spread to the brain, which it had not. That was good! They recommended her see her Oncologist. which she has an appointment tomorrow (Wednesday) at noon. A lot of her Church family have been staying with her round the clock.

I know everyone has been keeping Donna in their prayers, please continue to do so and pray for her to be comfortable and feeling better right now. I will post when I know more about what happens at the appointment.

Love to All, Tina

New Treatment

Donna went to see the Oncologist last week to figure out what they would try next. Her liver counts were better so the liver procedure was helpful. The doctor did tell her that he would not be able to do another liver infusion procedure again after the artery was blocked by a blood clot. He is starting her on another chemo that is taken orally for a couple weeks. This chemo drug should target not only the liver, but also the lungs and the colon. She will not see the doctor for a few weeks now. It should be an easier few weeks. Please pray that this chemo treatment will continue to give her good results.

Donna’s trip to Calif 10/4/08

Amanda’s weddingDonna & Family at niece Amanda’s wedding
Donna felt well enough to travel to California this past weekend to see her niece Amanda get married. She and Dusty flew in Friday evening and enjoyed the wedding on Saturday. It was a great opportunity to see old friends and some family she hasn’t seen in quite awhile.

Leaving Comments for Donna

Several people are confused about how the comment section of the website works. So I thought I would give you some quick notes about leaving comments for Donna. She loves hearing from you and reading your comments on this blog. So please continue to encourage her daily by leaving messages.
I monitor this blog and website daily. The first time you post a comment on Donna’s website, it comes to me and I have to “approve”, “disapprove”, or “spam” it. Once I “approve” your comment, it shows up on the website and then your email address is “approved” for any future comments automatically. So hopefully that helps you understand why your comment doesn’t show up the first time you post it. Unfortunately in our internet world we do have weird people who send spam even to sites like Donna’s. So everyday I spam out lots of junk comments and occasionally I will accidentally hit “spam” on a legitimate comment. I actually did this earlier this week to someone and I didn’t catch the name. Unfortunately, now your email address will not be accepted on this website. So if this has happened to you, I am so sorry. All you need to do to be able to send a comment again is send the comment again but using a different email address than you previously used. I hope this helps.

Donna’s Feeling Better

Thank you for your prayers! Donna spent about 6 hours Friday receiving 2 units of blood. It was a long day, but she says she feels so much better and has a little more enrgy. She didn’t know how bad she felt until she realized how good she felt after the transfusion! She sees the Doctor again this Thursday to see how things are looking since the last attempt at the liver flushing. I’ll post information again after that point. Once again, thanks for all your prayers and keep on praying!

Dr. appt today 9-18-08

Donna had an appointment today with her Oncologist and had some good news and some not so good news. First of all, her liver count numbers from the chemo treatment were good. There is a possibility of repeating the liver flushing treatment again in 4 weeks if the liver counts continue to go down. I guess there’s a possibility of unblocking the artery. This was encouraging. The other news is Donna’s red blood cell count was very low and she is very anemic. She will be at the hospital having a blood transfusion all day Friday. She should be feeling a little better after that. The other issue they are trying to figure out is why her feet continue to swell. The swelling is causing Donna discomfort. She is also having trouble with falling lately, She had a fall while I was with her in Dallas, and just had another bad fall this week. This last fall was a doozy! She ended up breaking her glasses and bruising her ribs. So, continue to pray for Donna for many reasons this week.

Donna headed home

Donna & Dusty
Well, the reconnecting of the port didn’t go too well yesterday. The artery they used to enter the liver was blocked, more than likely from a blood clot. This happens sometimes when a catheter is left in the artery. There are other arteries open and supplying blood to the liver. The chemo for this procedure was discontinued yesterday because of the blockage. There may be a positive light to this news in that the artery that is blocked is also the artery that feeds the blood supply to the tumors in the liver. We will be checking Donna out this morning and taking her home. Our brother Ed arrived safely last night and we both stayed at the hospital with Donna. She’s ready to go home! So, please continue to keep Donna in your prayers. Also keep us all in your prayers as hurricane Ike’s path is headed towards Dallas Saturday and Sunday. Ed & I are to leave for California Sunday night. I will keep you all posted. Love to all, Tina

Visit with Donna

I’m here in Dallas with Donna and it’s good to see her! She’s all hooked up to the chemo drugs, but has had a rough week. She has been in a lot of pain and running a fever. She’s felt so sick she couldn’t eat. This morning she was finally feeling better and eating breakfast when they discovered her port into her liver had moved out of place. They stopped the chemo treatment and have taken her down for another procedure to re-connect the port. Thank you to everyone who has stopped by to see Donna this week. It has brightened her days and helped her long days go by faster. I’ve enjoyed seeing all of you as well this week, it has reminded me of what wonderful friends and support Donna has here. I will update you later how the rest of the treatment looks like it will go. Thank you all again for your prayers. Love, Tina
